EdgeConneX Expands European Footprint By Entering CEE Data Centre Market
US operator cements global expansion strategy with latest M&A giving it access to a market of over 300 million people.
EdgeConneX has acquired Linxdatacenter’s facility in Warsaw, Poland, in a bid to continue delivering digital content at the edge to support customers in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).
The company currently has three data centres in Europe, in the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands.
The new Warsaw asset supports deployments which range from single racks to large custom cages or pods, with the capability to support future capacity expansion requirements.
The purchase of the Warsaw data centre comes at a time when cloud demand in Poland is amplified due to the increased adoption of hybrid cloud, data regulations and the ability to be the gateway into neighbouring countries.
By entering the Polish Data centre market, EdgeConneX will be in direct competition with established players such as Aruba, DataHouse.PL, TeliaSonera WZW/G and LIM DC.
Phillip Marangella, CMO of EdgeConneX, told Data Economy: “The Warsaw acquisition is consistent with EdgeConneX’s overall strategy of a customer-centric expansion strategy that focuses on acquiring facilities, organically, or in this case inorganically, in optimal markets and locations for customer’s infrastructure.
“This can be large, hyperscale facilities in core markets, or highly proximate edge sites in newer, emerging markets as is the case in Poland.
“Either way, EdgeConneX looks to deliver wholesale data centre solutions for its service provider customers in a rapid and scalable manner around the world.”

Linxdatacenter in Saint Petersburg reported ten years of uptime in September 2021. The key task of any data center is to minimize the number and length of downtime periods. Uptime Institute, the global DC expert community, notes positive dynamics in this field: the share of data centers worldwide reporting serious interruptions dropped from 11% in 2020 to 6% in 2021.
With its partners’ assistance, Linxdatacenter conducted a survey of the Russian cloud providers and evaluated their work from the perspective of their initial contact with potential customers.
Linxdatacenter has successfully passed the reassessment of its Saint Petersburg data center for compliance with the Management & Operations Stamp of Approval. Linxdatacenter is currently the only DC operator in Russia carrying the M&O Stamp of Approval by the key industry certifying organization Uptime Institute and having confirmed its compliance with the M&O requirements for the third time in succession.
Global shortage of two key IT infrastructure components – microchips and data storage drives – can lead to an increase in the cloud demand in Russia in the beginning of 2022. According to Linxdatacenter’s estimate, the demand will grow by 15-20%.
